Marie Laforey is a self-taught artist based in New York, US who maintains a sustainable art practice using primarily organic material. Laforey enjoys the tactility of working with organic mediums and learning how to craft preserved moss, clay, feathers and other natural elements into beautiful abstract compositions. Primarily inspired by nature, repetition, patterns, the particularity of texture and geometry are essential elements that are omnipresent in her works.
About the Orbis series:
Marie Laforey’s new Orbis series explores the world through constellations of meticulously placed dots, forming images that drift between abstraction and representation. Drawing from natural forms, urban landscapes, and cartographic systems, the works evoke aerial perspectives—at once maps, constellations, and shifting terrains. Order and chance coexist as patterns surface, dissolve, and reassemble, reflecting how places are felt and remembered rather than precisely seen. Each composition conveys movement, rhythm, and interconnectedness, inviting the viewer to navigate spaces that are simultaneously organic and constructed. Framed within a circular form, the works allude to cycles, orbits, and continuity, echoing planetary motion and the endless passage of time. Through repetition and variation, the Orbis series reflects on how environments—both natural and human-made—are perceived, recorded, and transformed in memory.
