Artist Statement: "Big bags, small bags, handbags, purses ....

Every person carries a bag, whether it's made out of plastic, fabric, metal, or simply a paper grocery bag. We all put things in them that are personal or important for us to carry. Sometimes the things we carry are due to the profession we have. Other times it's because we feel safer to have those things with us.

I use multiple canvases of different sizes placed together so that the artwork itself becomes like many different objects in a bag. Texture, color and shapes are used to symbolize the contents of someone's bag. What if there was a huge bag that we could walk into it? Then we would become the objects of a bag."

Tatiana Soteropoulos is a Greek-Cypriot artist who studied as a Fullbright Scholar at the Columbus College of Art and Design in the United States. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in the Division of Illustration. She currently teaches art in a puplic High school in Nicosia and is the Art Counselor of the Inspector of Art at the Ministry of Education and Culture in Cyprus. She has done freelance work for advertising firms, collaborated with publishing houses and illustrated over 20 children's books. She has also exhibited her artwork in Cyprus and other European countries. In 2005, she collaborated with American artist Erik Maell to create the designs for the new national currency of Cyprus.
