Born in the Midwest, Hilary Lorenz uses wilderness hiking and marathon training to investigate ritual and rhythm that test physical and psychic boundaries as the interplay for her works on paper. Her drawings and prints reflect observations of nature and record her direct physical experiences. Lorenz documents the changing weather, the sounds of nature, the isolation, and the singular experience of observing time through changes in an environment. With an MFA from the University of Iowa in printmaking and multimedia, Lorenz moved to NYC in 1993.She recently completed artist residences in the mountains of Tasmania, Australia and at the Cape |
| Cod National Seashore in Massachusetts. She has received residencies from the Santa Fe Art Institute, New Mexico; Manhattan Graphics, Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, and the Lower East Side Printshop, New York. She received fellowships and awards from the Fulbright Foundation; the NEA-MidAtlantic Foundation; the Frans MasereelCentrum, Belgium; and the Miskolc Museum of Contemporary Art, Hungary. Her artwork has been reviewed in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Art in America, and Art on Paper among others.
